Valencia vs Hapoel Tel Aviv Preview

Around 9,000 spectators will witness the decisive Game 3 of the EuroCup semifinals between Valencia and Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Valencia are aiming for a record-breaking fifth title in this competition, but standing in their way is an ambitious project from Israel.

Valencia Form & Team News

Valencia failed to get the job done on Friday at Samokov Arena, meaning they will have to return home once again in front of their fans.

To be fair, Hapoel Tel Aviv fully deserved another shot, as they were the better team for all 40 minutes of that game.

Valencia struggled to defend against any of their opponent’s attacks, which resulted in Hapoel posting excellent shooting percentages (65% on two-pointers and 40% from beyond the arc).

Once again, some of Valencia’s key players underperformed. Sam Ojeleye was a non-factor for the second straight game, while Jean Montero, despite dishing out nine assists, struggled with his shooting, going just 3-for-13 from the field.

Even Matt Costello’s 21 points weren’t enough to help Valencia avoid defeat.

In the meantime, they played their Round 25 ACB League game, delivering a convincing 97-69 away win against Granada.

Ojeleye led the team with 18 points, and perhaps that performance is a sign of increased minutes and better play from him in Game 3.

Hapoel Tel Aviv

Despite all the travel issues Israeli clubs have dealt with this season, Hapoel Tel Aviv have been impressive in the EuroCup.

Now, they’re one win away from their first-ever final, but they’re up against the toughest possible opponent.

Valencia have been nearly unstoppable at home, losing just once in the competition and averaging over 95 points per game.

That said, Hapoel have already shown they can keep up. In Game 1 at Fonteta, they were up by 10 at halftime, but a rough third quarter cost them a chance to steal the win.

If they want to pull it off this time, they’ll need to stay sharp for the full 40 minutes and keep shooting at a high level.

Head to Head

In the past two games, these teams have shown pretty much everything they’ve got, so they know each other well—there are no surprises left.

Verdict

The visitors played a near-perfect game to secure their win, and it's hard to see them repeating such a performance.

On the flip side, Montero and Jones can’t possibly perform worse than in the last game, and with more consistent shooting from them, Valencia should be able to hold their ground at home.
