Alba vs Olympiacos Preview

In the final EuroLeague game in Berlin this season, Alba will host the league leaders, Olympiacos.

Can the hosts avoid another disaster, or will Olympiacos get the job done and put an end to their losing streak?

Alba Form & Team News

Alba's EuroLeague season has been nothing short of a disaster.

In 32 games, they’ve won only five times, and it’s unlikely that number will change in the final two rounds.

Their future in the competition is still unclear, but with talks of a possible expansion to 20 teams, they might keep their spot for another season.

The last round brought their worst defeat of the season—108-64 against Virtus Bologna, the second-worst team in the league. To make things worse, 9,000 home fans had to witness it live, with little to remember from this disappointing season.

Alba now turns to the domestic league, but even there, things don’t look much better, as they remain far from the playoff zone with eight rounds to go.

Olympiacos Form & Team News

With their third straight loss last week, Olympiacos are in danger of losing the top spot after leading the standings for a long time.

Fenerbahce’s defeat to Barcelona in Round 33 has given them another chance to reclaim first place, and they can’t afford to waste it.

Something clearly isn’t working for Olympiacos in recent weeks, and with the playoffs coming up, they need to turn things around fast. Coach Bartzokas has to lift the team and get them ready for the crucial games ahead.

Keenan Evans could make his debut after nine months of recovery from a serious injury, which would be a big boost with Thomas Walkup and Luca Vildoza sidelined.

Several other players are dealing with injuries, and Olympiacos will be without Evan Fournier, Moustapha Fall, and Nikola Milutinov in Berlin. That leaves Moses Wright as the only available center.

Head to Head

Olympiacos have won their last five meetings against Alba, including this season’s first clash in Piraeus, which ended 90-85. Evan Fournier was the standout performer in that game, scoring 23 points.

Verdict

The roster situation at Olympiacos isn’t ideal due to the number of injured players, but this is still too strong and deep a squad for their victory against the league’s worst team to be in doubt.

I believe the visitors won’t let the chance slip away to reclaim the top spot in the standings with a win in this game.
